compound light microscopes.

Phase Contrast microscopes allow better image quality in viewing specimens due to
a special technique that translates light wave shift phase into intensity shift,
allowing visible contrast. This process necessarily requires a phase diaphragm to
be placed in the back aperature plane. A phase annulus ring is also provided by
using a special phase contrast condenser. The phase contrast diaphragm is aligned
with the phase annulus cone of light, allowing the viewing of the back of the
aperature plane in the objective. For best results, however, it is important that
the correct phase contrast objective is paired with the matching size phase annulus
ring in the phase contrast condenser.

Phase Contrast microscopes are ideally used in applications that need
particularly clear image magnification, like molecular and cellular biology
research, microbiological research, animal breeding research and study, spermatozoa
analysis, sperm motility monitoring, sperm count and morphology, living tissue
culture viewing, analysis of human squamous cheek cells, and clinical and medical
